Each year, Mr. Tooley reads the CYRM nominees to students in the library--Primary nominees to grades K-2 and Picture Book for Older Readers nominees to grades 3-5. He also purchases several copies of the Intermediate nominees and encourages 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to read them on their own. Students vote in the library toward the end of March to have their votes counted in the statewide ballot.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to check out and read the same books during April. While adult votes do not count in the official CYRM tallies, it is interesting to see how parent and caregiver preferences compare to those of the students.
The official CYRM results are announced each year on May 1.
